how to know if it’s time to hire a copywriter

What exactly is copywriting?

I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble… but not everyone is great at writing.

This is especially true when it comes to our business. As you might already know, there’s a ton of writing involved with marketing your business.

  • Website

  • Sales Pages

  • Service Pages

  • Ads

  • Social Media Content

  • Email Marketing

  • Blogs

  • Brochures…

I could go on.

When you’re not a strong writer, hiring a copywriter could be the thing that leads to you getting more sales in your business.

Here’s the thing…

You’ve probably heard me say that Brand Photography isn’t just pretty photos. There’s a purpose - specifically a marketing purpose - to the photos.

It’s the same with Copywriting. It’s not just words that look and sound good, there’s a marketing strategy and purpose behind them

Copywriting isn't the same as Content Writing. Content writing builds authority and community. It adds value and is entertaining. It does not, however, directly lead to you growing your business (and making you money).

You can have blog posts and social media posts that lead in a roundabout way to a sale. But that’s because they lead your audience to your web page or sales page (where you're good sales copy is) and they buy from you.

Some Copywriters offer both (it's me, hi!), but I should note that there would be a price different between Content Writing and Copywriting pieces.

Why?

Because copywriting has a direct impact on converting the reader to take the desired action.

AKA Good copywriting is meant get you more sales, leads and money.

What every good copywriter knows...

A good copywriter knows how to walk readers through the buyer journey. They use psychological triggers to make the reader think, “Heck yes, I need this now!” Which is what we all want right?

A good copywriter also…

  • Knows how to conduct good research

  • Understands your audience

  • Can incorporate feedback from analytics

  • Pays attention to detail

  • has marketing know-how

  • helps craft your brand voice

  • Creates a clear brand message

Is it time to hire one?

So, how do you know if it’s really time to hire one?

Here’s a few questions to consider.

  • Is your website traffic sticking around?

  • Are visitors to your website or sales page taking action - booking a call, filling out a contact form, or buying from you?

  • When you’re having calls do they often end up not a good fit?

  • Are you struggling to get leads and calls in the first place?

  • Does your content on social media get a lot of views but not a lot of conversions?

  • Does your content get low engagement?

  • Is your email list engaged?

  • Do they reply or click the links you’re sending them?

  • In your last launch, were you attracting the right people? Did your copy make them feel like your offer was for them?

If you answered yes to one or more of these… then yes, it might be time to look into hiring a copywriter.
